Independent Reviewing Officer

Job description

As a member of the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance team, you may hold a diverse caseload that will include mainly children looked after and some child protection cases.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking the review and evaluation of cases, primarily involving children looked after and child protection scenarios.
  • Demonstrating a strong ability to manage a diverse caseload efficiently and effectively.
  • Actively participating in auditing activities across the service to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Contributing valuable insights to enhance the overall effectiveness of safeguarding and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensuring active participation of children, young people, and their parents during meetings.
  • Demonstrating proficient report writing skills to communicate findings, recommendations, and decisions effectively.
  • Ensuring that effective decisions are made for Children Looked After and Children with a Child Protection Plan.
  • Monitoring and assessing decisions in accordance with Working Together and the Care Placement, Planning, and Review Regulations.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Independent Reviewing Officer or in a similar safeguarding role.
  • Strong chairing skills with the ability to manage challenging meetings.
  • Extensive knowledge of London Child Protection Procedures, The Care Planning, Placement and Case Review Regulations, 2010 and the IRO handbook.
  • Thorough understanding of child protection and safeguarding regulations.
  • Ensuring that high quality services are being delivered to children, providing constructive challenge where needed.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
