Project Support Worker

Job description

Job purpose:

  • Taking responsibility for delivering key aspects of the planning and conduct of elections and the registration of electors, in accordance with project plans, being wholly accountable for the quality and outcome of the deliverables.
  • Assisting in providing a professional service to the public, elected representatives, local authorities and colleagues within the council on all matters relating to electoral registration and elections.
  • Assisting in the implementation of plans to raise levels of voter registration and engagement in the electoral process, and to implement immediate and long-term strategies to ensure the accuracy of the register of electors, as well as providing advice and support in respect of access to and the use of the data contained in the register of electors, in accordance with DPA and GDPR principles.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Taking responsibility for agreed tasks during the delivery of elections and referendums, ensuring the effective running and management of electoral events within the borough.
  • Working with colleagues to deliver elections and electoral registration as a team, showing initiative and collaborative working styles in order to deliver a coherent and cohesive service.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, and comply with best practice as outlined by The Electoral Commission.
  • Providing advice and guidance on complex issues, including the legal requirements relating to election and electoral registration issues, to members of the public, Members, other authorities and council departments.
  • Providing research reports by analysing data held by the service on election and electoral registration-related issues.
  • Assisting with ensuring projects meet the agreed vision, objectives, and success criteria.

Requirements:

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to co-ordinate, plan and prioritise the workload and meet deadlines when faced with conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the council’s equalities, diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Experience of working providing high quality administrative services and dealing with a wide range of complex work whilst ensuring good attention to detail.
  • A proactive outlook with the ability to maintain a positive attitude and mental agility whilst working under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong working relationships with others.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of individuals and deal with complex queries in accordance with agreed standards.
