Job description

Working as a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will be providing specialised care and support to individuals struggling with substance misuse. The successful candidate will work closely with clients to assess their needs, develop individualised care plans, administer treatments, and provide ongoing support and education to promote recovery and well-being.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting thorough assessments of clients to determine the extent of their substance misuse and related health issues.
  • Developing, implementing, and reviewing personalised care plans in collaboration with clients and other healthcare professionals.
  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for substance dependence.
  • Monitoring clients’ progress and adjusting care plans as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Providing education and counselling to clients and their families about substance misuse, treatment options, and recovery strategies.
  • Supporting clients in managing withdrawal symptoms and minimising the risk of relapse.
  • Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, psychologists, social workers, and support staff.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records of all client interactions and interventions.
  • Participating in case conferences, team meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Advocating for clients' needs and rights within the healthcare system and the community.

Requirements:

  • A registered nurse qualification with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Previous experience in substance misuse treatment, addiction services, or mental health care.
  • Strong knowledge of substance misuse, addiction, and related health issues.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Organisational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate records.
  • Enhanced DBS dated within the last 12 months. On the update service? You could be fast tracked through our recruitment process today.
  • Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS if you do not currently hold one.
