Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Hospital Director to lead the operational and clinical functions of our hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality service delivery, regulatory compliance, and overall operational efficiency. This role requires an individual with a strong leadership background, expertise in mental health and learning disabilities services, and a proactive approach to service development and improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Service Management

  • Lead and manage all aspects of hospital operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the hospital’s goals and overall vision.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, service delivery, and operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop new services that meet evolving healthcare needs.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and professional development among staff.

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

  • Maintain full compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure timely submission of required reports and documentation.
  • Lead hospital inspections and implement necessary actions based on feedback from regulatory agencies.
  • Uphold governance and risk management policies to ensure patient safety and quality care.

Operational & Financial Management

  • Oversee hospital budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation.
  • Manage hospital expenditures to align with financial targets and sustainability goals.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure optimal operational efficiency.
  • Implement cost-effective staffing strategies to reduce dependency on agency staff.

Team Leadership & Staff Development

  • Provide strong leadership, motivation, and direction to all hospital staff.
  • Ensure staff training and professional development opportunities are available.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and support succession planning initiatives.
  • Lead recruitment and retention efforts to build a skilled and engaged workforce.

Clinical Excellence & Patient Care

  • Ensure the highest standards of clinical care, safety, and patient experience.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Oversee the implementation of evidence-based care models and interventions.
  • Monitor patient safety and implement strategies for risk mitigation.

Stakeholder Engagement & External Relations

  • Develop strong relationships with commissioners, regulatory bodies, and healthcare partners.
  • Act as a hospital ambassador, enhancing its reputation within the healthcare sector.
  • Engage with patients, families, and the community to build trust and transparency.
  • Work closely with external stakeholders to align services with local healthcare demands.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant qualifications in healthcare management, nursing, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health, learning disabilities, and complex care needs.
  • In-depth understanding of healthcare regulations, including Mental Health and Mental Capacity Acts.
  • Proven track record in operational and financial management.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams while fostering a collaborative work environment.
