As a Senior Social Worker in the Duty and Assessments unit, you will be responsible for conducting both S17 and S47 assessments, managing cases from the initial contact through to closure, step-down, or transfer to our safeguarding teams. You will work within a supportive team environment that emphasises learning, collaboration, and ongoing professional development.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Carrying out comprehensive assessments under Section 17 and Section 47 of the Children Act 1989, ensuring that all relevant information is gathered to make informed decisions regarding the safety and welfare of children.
- Effectively managing a manageable caseload, ensuring that assessments and case work are completed in a timely and thorough manner.
- Collaborating with colleagues, other social workers, and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that children and families receive the best possible support and intervention.
- Identifying and acting on safeguarding concerns, escalating as necessary, and ensure compliance with child protection policies and procedures.
- Maintaining accurate case records, producing high-quality reports, and documenting all case activities in accordance with organisational and legal requirements.
- Participating in regular supervision sessions, team meetings, and reflective practice discussions to promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with partner agencies, schools, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to child and family welfare.
Requirements:
- A recognised Social Work Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Strong assessment skills with the ability to analyse complex information.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and external partners.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
