Building Control Surveyor

Job description

As our Building Control Surveyor, you’ll work within our Building Control team to provide expert level opinion and support across a wide range of construction projects. Through this key role in building regulation and public advice, you’ll help us reach our ambitious construction objectives for Westminster, taking us closer to our ‘City for All’ vision.

The role is a high profile and challenging position that will give you the opportunity to work across a variety of dynamic projects. You’ll be responsible for a geographical area within the city, giving advice to the public on building control matters and processing applications using building regulations. You’ll also be expected to make inspections to achieve full compliance, including initial assessments of potentially dangerous structures.

On top of this, there’s a strong commercial and customer-facing aspect to the role, as you’ll help to maximise income through developing partnerships and building control activities. You’ll also give customers a professional service when ensuring that building regulations are satisfied, and maintain sound working relationships across the board.

Leadership is also an important part of the role, as you’ll occasionally be required to deputise for the Head of Building Control. But just as much, you’ll help to support and develop more junior members of the team, drawing on your expertise and specialist knowledge as well as your coaching abilities.

Naturally, you’ll have significant experience in building control and liaising with a wide range of stakeholders. You’ll also be an effective communicator with sound IT skills, able to write clear, concise reports.

Skills Required: Please review with your submission prior to submitting.

An excellent knowledge of statutory compliance and building control regulations is essential, along with a building or planning-related degree and full membership of any of the following: RICS, ICE, IStructE, ABE, IFE or IOB.

If you’re productive, ambitious, collaborative and enterprising, this is your chance to take real ownership of your work, right in the heart of Westminster, a true ‘City for All’ and a flagship council. This is a one-of-a kind place where different ideas and perspectives are welcome, and your work truly matters. We never stop aiming higher – join us and help shape our city for years to come.
